Family Medicine
Family practice, as defined by the American Academy of Family Physicians, is the medical specialty which provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family. This integrates the biological, clinical, and behavioral sciences. The scope of family practice encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system, and every disease entity. A major strength of this specialty is the family practice physician's ability to care for individuals and families over their entire life span.
Family Practice/General Medicine includes, but is not limited to the following:
Skin Care: including acne, warts, lesions (benign & cancer). Orthopedics: uncomplicated fractures, assessments, referrals for major orthopedics. Cardiology: high blood pressure, chest pain, stress tests, heart attack, multiple
heart conditions. Rheumatology: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, other muscular
skeletal problems. Respiratory Care: pneumonia, asthma, respiratory infections. Endocrinology: diabetes care, thyroid disorder. Psychology: mental health, anxiety disorders, depression. Hematology: anemia, headaches. Preventative services & education: including cancer, heart conditions, diabetes, etc. Minor surgical procedure: including removal of benign tumors, lesions, warts. Also included are, General Medicine, Gynecology, All Abdominal Conditions, Emergency care for all systems, and Urological Conditions.
