Unity Medical Center unveiled its Veterans Memorial Wall on November 11, 2024, in honor of Veterans Day, with a community open house displaying 160 photos of area veterans. The display stretches nearly 100 feet along the third floor of the hospital outside the education rooms. Just over a year later, the wall has grown to feature more than 270 photos and continues to expand.
Former CEO Alan O’Neil envisioned a meaningful way to recognize local veterans and partnered with Marketing Director Maggie Suda to create the unique tribute. O’Neil shared, “We are honored to display the pictures of our American heroes. We cannot begin to thank the men and women who served enough for their sacrifice so we can maintain our freedom.”
Photos were sourced through newspaper advertisements and social media outreach, with additional support from the Unity Medical Center Auxiliary, which generously donated $2,000 to help fund the project.
Community members who would like to submit a photo of a veteran are encouraged to email a .jpg image to msuda@unitymedcenter.com. Please include the veteran’s name, rank, military branch, years of service (19xx–19xx), and hometown. Original photos (of any size) can be scanned at the hospital—just ask for Maggie Suda upon arrival. All photos are resized to 5”x7”, framed and include an engraved name plate.
