What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine uses interactive video technology to perform (or conduct) live audio and visual communication technology between a patient and a specialist who are separated by distance.  The consult is done from the Grafton Family Clinic consult room.

The visit occurs with the patient, family members, telemed nurse and the specialist.  The telemed nurse operates the cameras and helps relay the the patient's needs to the specialist.  

The patient is able to hear and see the specialist as if the specialist is in the room with them.  The equipment used is transferred over a dedicated and private internet connection. 

Having this option available in our rural community is a wonderful tool and a great way to connect with specialists throughout the region in a convenient way.
