Arthritis

What is arthritis?

Arthritis can be defined as inflammation of the cartilage of one or more joints within the body. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, stiffness and decreased range of motion, which can all lead to a decline in overall daily function. Common types of arthritis:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
  • Osteoarthritis (OA)

How can physical therapy help?

Your physical therapist will work with you to develop an individualized plan of care addressing your pain and movement limitations. Exercises may include stretching to restore range of motion, strengthening to improve stability around your joints and education to prevent further damage to your joints.
